The 2018 Independence Day travel period claimed 5 lives this year. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the 30-hour holiday period began on Tuesday, July 3, at 6:00 p.m. and ended Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. Statewide, GSP troopers investigated 131 traffic crashes that resulted in 59 injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is issuing data regarding drug exhibits submitted to the Crime Lab for testing by law enforcement agencies in Georgia that contain counterfeit pills.
