Early voting, for runoff election, off to strong start

Early Voting for the May general primary runoff election began this week in Stephens County.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran told WNEG News, on Thursday, that 136 residents have cast early ballots.

“Early voting for the runoff, the May 22 election primary, started on July 2, and the first two days, July 2, and July 3, we were having more voters, turnout than we had the first two days of the original primary,” Cochran said. “We are glad to see the turnout’s increasing, and we hope that continues.”

In Stephens County, there is one contested seat that the public will decide.

Running for the Stephens County Board of Commissioners’ Post 4 seat are two Republican Candidates James Addison and Bryan Dooley.

The polls opened Monday morning, for early voting, and will remain open until Friday, July 20.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through July 20.

All early voting is at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office, which is located in the Stephens County Courthouse Annex on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.

And in other races, Georgia voters will return to the polls July 24 for several runoff elections.

Republican Party voters will decide on their nominees for governor, lieutenant governor and secretary of state; while, Democratic Party voters will choose their candidate for state schools superintendent.

The winners of the State runoffs advance to the Nov. 6 general election.

Cochran adds that the Registrar’s Office will not hold a Saturday election during the runoff.
