Work Continues on I-85 Widening Project

Work to widen a large stretch of I-85 from Jackson county to Gwinnett County is continuing this week.

Asphalt paving and bridge work on I-85 began Monday night, which meant single-lane closures in both directions between Liberty Church Road in Barrow County and SR 53 in Jackson County.

Single-lane closures will also be utilized along I-85 northbound between Hamilton Mill Road and Spout Springs Road, and southbound from Flowery Branch Road to Spout Springs Road in Gwinnett County.

All of the work is taking place overnights from 9p to 5a Monday through Thursday and 9p to 7a on Friday.

On Saturday, work will be going on from 9p to 9a Sunday morning.  Traffic pacing activity will also occur in each direction from Monday through Saturday night.  Pacing will begin at 9 p.m. nightly and continue until 5 a.m. each morning.

While work is going on motorists can expect intermittent traffic stops while contractors perform equipment relocations and other activities.

Drivers are advised to obey posted speed limits and traffic control measures inside the project limits.
