Winter Weather Preparedness Week – Day 3

Just a reminder that this week is Winter Weather Preparedness Week, and as WNEG News reported last week, Danielle Rhodes, Director of Stephens County Emergency Management, is joining The National Weather Service and the Ready Georgia campaign in offering plans and education on potentially dangerous storms and encouraging residents to prepare for severe winter weather.

Each day during Winter Weather Preparedness Week focuses on a different aspect of winter weather, and today’s highlight is Winter Weather Preparation Tips and how to make a plan for winter weather events by putting together a Ready Kit before winter weather strikes.

Recommended Items to Include in a Basic Ready Kit:

  • Water At least 3 gallons per person, for drinking and sanitation
  • Food At least a 3-day supply of non-perishable food
  • Can opener For food, if kit contains canned food
  • Radio Battery-powered or hand crank NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle To signal for help
  • Face mask To help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter in place
