Winners announced for annual Margaret Ayers Award

The annual winners of a community award in Lavonia have been announced.

Earlier this month, Logan and Andie Mathis were named as the recipients of the 15th annual Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health in Lavonia.

The award is presented by the Lavonia Clinic and the Northeast Georgia Regional Medical Associates.

It honors a community member for volunteerism, exceptional character, dignified leadership, appreciation of the community’s history and credit to the community.

Logan and Andie Mathis were recognized for leadership in the Helping Hands ministry, the Carnegie and Franklin County Library boards, the hospital authority, Downtown Development Authority, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and church.

In making the presentation, Dr. Jonathan Hall, of Northeast Georgia Physicians Group and Lavonia Clinic, introduced the awardees with a unique twist, since this is the first time one of the recipients, Logan Mathis, had passed away earlier this year.

Andie Mathis accepted the award.

The award is named in honor of Lavonia’s former first lady and longtime banker, Margaret Ayers.

Hall went on to say that Logan and Andie Mathis “are servant-minded citizens who love this community.”
