Wilkinson Backs LIFE Act, Commends Kemp’s Signing Bill Into Law

State Senator John Wilkinson is throwing his support behind House Bill 481, known as the LIFE Act.

On his Facebook page, Wilkinson commended Governor Kemp for taking a stand for life.

“Thank you Governor Kemp,” Wilkinson wrote. “We will not be a great state unless we protect the sanctity of life for all our citizens, including the ones who cannot speak for themselves.”

Kemp signed the bill Tuesday morning despite weeks of protests from pro-choice groups and the ACLU.

Before signing the bill, Kemp said Georgia is a state that values life, protects the innocent and vulnerable, and speaks for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Kemp said all life is worthy of protection. The Governor went on to say that despite the threat of lawsuits by those opposed to the bill, Georgia must do what is right, not what is easy.

“Georgia will not back down and always continue to fight for life,” the Governor said.

Kemp said changes must also be made to the costly adoption process and to the foster care system.  He also said Georgia must work to protect life at all stages, including protecting the elderly.

ACLU officials say the bill is unconstitutional and they vow to fight it in court.

Georgia is not the only state to toughen its abortion laws. Similar bans have been signed into law in Mississippi, Kentucky and Ohio, and are being considered elsewhere.
