Weekend snow storm creates problems for 20 motorists

Friday’s snowfall is gone but not before causing headaches for motorists in Stephens County.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley tells WNEG News his officers worked around the clock Friday and Saturday answering calls for help and investigating multiple wrecks.

The Sheriff said from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, deputies investigated 20 accidents, including one involving an overturned vehicle.

There were also numerous incidents in which vehicles simply slid off the roadway because of the slushy and icy road conditions.

Most of the wrecks involved no injuries, according to Shirley

And he said most of the wrecks began around 5pm Friday night and continued into Saturday morning.

Deputies had to work overtime to keep up with the volume of accident calls.

Deputies also made sure healthcare and public safety workers clocked in on time by taking them to and from work.
