Water Management Workshop in Toccoa Today

Officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are hosting a workshop on water management and water levels at Lake Hartwell today in Toccoa.

The workshop will provide information on how the Corps manages the reservoirs and the entire Savannah River Basin.

Senior Public Affairs Specialist Billy Birdwell said the workshop will help people learn more about water management among other things.

“It gives them an opportunity to learn a little more about water and drought management,” said Birdwell. “We have those things set up in advance so that we have a system set up. We know what actions we’re going to take before those actions need to occur.”

Some of the presenters at the workshop include some of the water managers from the Corps and a briefing from the National Weather Service.

Birdwell said this gives people an opportunity to get answers to questions they may have.

“This is open to the public,” said Birdwell. “It’s a workshop so it’s a time for people to ask questions and get answers. We’ll be setting up stands and booths beforehand so people can do one-on-one questioning. And then we’ll have the briefings and give people the chance to ask questions in front of the whole group.”

The workshop will be at the North GA Technical College Currahee Campus in the Conference Center and begins at 6 p.m. It’s a come and go event and the public is invited to attend.
