Watch for School Buses on the road as students returns to school

As a reminder, Stephens County Schools are back in session.

The Stephens County School year began on Tuesday and will run 180 days.

Be careful while on your commute as school buses will be on the roads this morning.

In Georgia, drivers must stop for school buses on two-lane roads–all traffic traveling in all lanes must stop when a school bus stops for children.

For two-lane roads with a center turning lane, all traffic traveling in All lanes must stop when the school bus stops for children, including vehicles in the turning lane.

For four-lane roads without a median separation—all traffic traveling in all lanes must stop when the school bus stops for children.

For roadways of four or more lanes with a center turning lane—all traffic traveling in all lanes must stop when a school bus stops for children, including vehicles in the turning lane.

And in divided highways of four or more lanes with a median separation—when there is a median separating the lanes of traffic, only vehicles traveling in the same direction of the school bus must stop when the school bus stops for children.

If you illegally pass a stopped school bus, you could face penalties such as a fine up to $1,000.
