Voter Registration Deadline is Today for November Election

If you plan to vote in November and have not registered, today is the last day to do so.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran reminds citizens that there are a number of ways to get registered.

“Well October the 9th is the deadline to register to vote or submit changes to an existing registration,” Cochran said. “If they need to register to vote they can go online to the Secretary of State’s Web site or they can come by the Registrar’s office in person and we’ll get them registered. They need to bring a photo ID and proof of residency.”

And if you have moved within the County since the last time you voted, you need to stop by the Registrar’s office to make sure they have the correct address on file.

Cochran said since May he’s seen an increase in the number of registered voters in Stephens County.

He said prior to the May Primary, Stephens County had just over 16,000 registered voters.

Since then, that number has gone up to 17,000 and continues to grow.

With the race for Governor the big contest in November, Cochran says he is expecting a good turnout on Election Day.

“Based on our early requests that we’ve received for absentee ballots by mail, which are over 300 already, I’m expecting a fairly substantial turnout,” Cochran said.

Again, today is the last day to register to vote in the November General Election.

You can register to vote by going online to the Secretary of State’s office at sos.ga.gov.

You can also register at the Toccoa DMV office when you go to renew your license.

Also, voter registration forms are available at the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library, and at the Stephens County Registrar’s office.

College students can pick up a voter registration form for their county or state in their school’s administrative offices.

Early voting begins October 15th and runs through November 2nd at the County Registrar’s office with one Saturday early voting day on October 27th.
