VFW Ladies Auxiliary Celebrates Anniversary
The Toccoa VFW Post’s Ladies’ Auxiliary celebrates a milestone.
This weekend, the VFW Post 4346 Ladies’ Auxiliary held a celebration to commemorate the 60th anniversary of its chartering, which officially happened on January 6, at the Post Home on Savannah Street in Toccoa.
VFW Post 4346 Ladies’ Auxiliary President Patti Lester said the celebration provides a great opportunity to look back at the last 60 years.
“We have some of our charter members here today, as well as our Department President and our District President and a lot of (other) folks here to celebrate all the wonderful things this auxiliary has done for 60 years,” said Lester.
Kim Lewis is the Department of Georgia President for the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary.
She said celebrating 60 years in Toccoa is very exciting.
“To have a Ladies’ Auxiliary to survive, continue on, and continue the work that they do for 60 years; that’s excellent,” said Lewis. “We need more of them.”
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary consists of women tied to someone eligible for the VFW organization like a husband, father, brother, or son.
Lester said the Ladies Auxiliary does a lot to programs to support the activities of the VFW.
“There are special programs that we do for veterans’ services, cancer aid and research,” said Lester. “We work with youth programs. We do a lot of community service. Our main focus, though, is supporting our veterans and making sure they are taken care of and their families are taken care of.”
