Veterans honored in Stephens & surrounding counties this weekend

The Toccoa Elks Lodge will be honoring veterans this Saturday, November 11, with a Veteran Day Service at Camp Toccoa at Currahee, 2351 Ayersville Road, at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public and will be presented by local veterans organizations. Sheltered seating is provided in the pavilion. Attendees are asked to arrive early, and seating will begin at 10:30 so that everyone is seated in time for the ceremony. The ceremony will take place rain or shine. Handicap transportation is provided to and from the parking lot. Lunch will be provided by the Toccoa Elks Lodge and will be served starting at 1 p.m. at the Toccoa Elks Lodge, 14 Remsdale Street in Toccoa. Dinner will include ham, chicken, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans, rolls, desserts and drinks. 

The Toccoa Veterans of Foreign Wars, or VFW, Post 4346 will host the second annual Veterans Gala on November 11, beginning at 7 p.m. Semi-formal attire is requested. Music will be provided by the Spare Partz Band. Dinner will be served byJust Right Catering. $15 for members, $20 for non-members. The event is open to all veterans and one guest. The Toccoa VFW Post 4246 will also host a Marine Corps 248 Birthday Celebration tomorrow, Nov. 10. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the ceremony starts at 7 p.m. 

Veterans of Foreign Wars, or VFW, Post 5897 in Lavonia will be hosting a Veterans Day event at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. All veterans and their families are invited to celebrate the nation’s heroes, including free food, activities and two watch parties, with Top Gun Maverick and Max playing on the big screen in the Main Hall and the Bulldogs vs Ole Miss game playing in the Canteen. VFW Post 5897 is located at 144 E. Main Street in Lavonia.
