Veterans Coffee to Bring in “Old Guard”

The Stephens County Historical Society will be hosting the December Veterans Coffee tomorrow morning in the Mitchell-Allen Meeting Room at the Currahee Military Museum.

Tomorrow’s Coffee is sponsored by the “Old Guard”. Dale Moseley, of the Stephens County Historical Society explains. “The Old Guard is the National Guard from Toccoa and Lavonia. We are trying to emphasize those to come.”

Moseley tells WNEG that all veterans and active military are invited. The guest speaker is retired Marine Ray Fairman. Gunner Fairman is a veteran of 42.5 years in the military, 36 of those years were in the USMC. He has served as a law enforcement officer at the municipal, county, and federal levels for 48 continuous years. He has also been serving concurrently as an ordained police chaplain for the last 20 years. Gunner Fairman was elected to the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame, Class of 2019.

Moseley hopes that more veterans will come and take part. “We have coffee and biscuits and before Covid we would have around 80 to come, but now we are about twenty less.”

For those veterans that would like to attend Moseley says just show.” Start showing up around 8:15 and our speaker will start at 9. That will give them time to eat. We give away door prizes and have had lots of people donate.”

Moseley says the January program will also be worth the visit. “Next month Ed Carman will speak about being a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan.”

Again, the Veterans Coffee is the first Wednesday of each month at the Mitchell-Allen Meeting room in the Currahee Military Museum with coffee and a light breakfast beginning at 8:15 A.M. and the speaker at 9 A.M.
