USO Swing Dance cancelled for 2021 Currahee Military Weekend

This year’s Currahee Military Weekend will look a little different due to rising concerns for COVID-19.

Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President Julie Paysen has announced that the 2021 USO Swing Dance, which was scheduled for Friday, October 1, has been cancelled.

Paysen says the Chamber Executive Board and Staff members made the decision after seeing the rising COVID positive rate in our region.

She says they plan to continue to proceed with all other scheduled events for the 2021 Currahee Military Weekend.

The weekend will kick off with a performance by Linda Davis at the Historic Ritz Theatre on Thursday, September 30.

Then on Friday, October 1, the day will be filled with activities, including the annual Canteen Chicken-Que, sponsored by the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce, the Memorabilia Show downtown and a book signing.

Saturday, October 2, begins with the Currahee Challenge 5k and 10k Run, Veterans Parade, and WWII Reenactment.

Then Saturday night, the annual Currahee Banquet and Fellowship.

Then on Sunday, October 3, at 8:30 a.m. the memorial service at Camp Toccoa.
