Update: Whitman Street Shooting

Updating our earlier story about last night’s shooting on Whitman Street:

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize spoke with WNEG News moments ago regarding the incident, confirming that Toccoa Police Officers responded shortly past midnight to reports of shots fired at an address on West Whitman Street across from Emory Johnson Park. Mize said  two individuals were transported by Stephens County EMS, one with a gunshot wound to the chest and one with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He said the last report he received, both victims were receiving medical care, but WNEG News does not have an updated report on their medical status.

Mize said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on scene is lead on the investigation, and further updates on the incident will come from the GBI, including any information on the identity and status of the shooter; currently WNEG News has no information on the identity of the shooter or whether the individual has been taken into custody.

W. Whitman St. will be closed to through traffic between GA 106 and S. Pine St. for an indeterminate amount of time as law-enforcement officials respond to a shooting last night at approximately midnight. According to E911 radio traffic last night two individuals were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, but WNEG has no official details or additional information at this moment. As soon as a report is available, we will provide updates. the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on scene and has taken lead on the investigation, according to law-enforcement sources.
