By MJ Kneiser, WLHR

We have more information on the charges facing a Hart County man allegedly involved in a shooting last Thursday night.

Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland tells WNEG’s sister station WLHR News at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday evening his office received a call that a woman had been shot.

When deputies arrived at the residence on Fleming Circle, they found a woman lying on the floor who had been shot three times in the legs.

Cleveland said deputies conducted a search of the residence but did not find the assailant.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Maurice Lamar McCord, later turned himself in to Sheriff Cleveland and Chief Deputy Tommy Whitmire at the Hart County Sheriff’s office early Friday morning.

According to the incident report, the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute.

McCord was charged with felony aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The victim is expected to recover.

McCord is currently being held in the Hart County Detention Center.
