UPDATE: BREAKING NEWS: TPD releases photo of suspect wanted in connection to local bank robbery

Stephens County Emergency Management has identified the suspect involved in the bank robbery that occurred Wednesday in Stephens County.

The suspect is 42-year-old Sidney Allen McCollum, of Pickens County, South Carolina.

The Toccoa Police Department has released additional details regarding the bank robbery that occurred in Stephens County on Wednesday.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, at approximately 11:57 a.m., a white male with medium to stock build with brown hair and a beard entered the Northeast Georgia Bank on Big A Road in Toccoa.

He was wearing a gray t-shirt, jeans, a ball cap and sunglasses.

The suspect, according to Mize, approached the teller and passed her a note telling her it was a robbery and asked for money.

After getting an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left the bank on foot.

No one at the bank was injured but the tellers were naturally rattled by the incident.

Officers from the Toccoa Police Department along with deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter around the bank and surrounding area.

Dogs from the Stephens County K-9 Unit were called to the scene and were only able to get a short track on the suspect.

Investigators with the Police Department, the GBI, and FBI are talking to witnesses and pulling video surveillance from nearby businesses.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call 706-282-3236 or 706-282-3302.
