U.S. Rep. Collins selected to serve on President Trump’s impeachment team

President Donald Trump has added U.S. Representative Doug Collins (R) (9th) to his list of advisors in anticipation of the impeachment hearings set to start today in the U.S. Senate.

Collins, whose 13-county 9th District includes Franklin, Stephens, Habersham and Hart counties, is among eight U.S. House members hand-picked by the President to serve on his impeachment team.

The White House announced the members of the team in a press briefing Monday.

Collins tweeted Monday night that he’s “honored” to fight on behalf of the president.

Collins tweet reads quote “This impeachment has been a sham since day one, and we will continue to expose it for what it is: A blatantly political attempt to overturn the will of 63 million Americans. #ShamImpeachment,” end quote.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the eight House members are not expected to actively participate in arguing the case before the Senate, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“Throughout this process, these Members of Congress have provided guidance to the White House team, which was prohibited from participating in the proceedings concocted by Democrats in the House of Representatives. The President looks forward to their continued participation and is confident that the Members will help expeditiously end this brazen political vendetta on behalf of the American people,” the Statement said.

According to the Associated Press, the group will not be on par with the president’s appointed legal defense team, but instead serve in advisory and television advocacy roles.
