Two Stephens County plants receive active shooter training

Two industrial plants in Stephens County participated in the Lavonia Police Department’s Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training.

The first training course was conducted on April 28, at the ASI Storage Solutions plant, located on Clary Connector and the second was conducted on May 4, at ASI’s Global Partitions plant, located on Hwy 145.

Due to the recent increase in active shooter events around the country, the leadership of the plants wanted to make sure that their employees were prepared to respond appropriately in the event of a workplace shooting.

The CRASE training course was developed by Texas State University and is designed to train civilians in how to respond with the best chance of surviving such a catastrophic event.

Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle and Lieutenant Josh Akins are both certified instructors of the course through Texas State University and provided the training.

Chief Carlisle says he was honored to have been given the opportunity to share this comprehensive course created to save lives and respond to life threatening events in an appropriate manner.
