Two SCHS athletes hold signing ceremonies

Two Stephens County High School athletes held signing ceremonies last week to announce where they’ll attend college and continue their academic and athletic career.

Kyle Watson, starting middle linebacker for the Indians football team, will be attending Reinhardt University in Waleska.

Kyle has been a member of the Indians football team for 4 years, 3 years on varsity.  He earned All-Region honors this year.

He is also a member of the Indians tennis team, as well as Beta Club and National Honor Society.

He said not just the football program, but the academic program attracted him to Reinhardt.

“I like how it is close to home, and I actually like the school there.  They have a great criminology and criminal justice program, which I’m going to school to major in, and the football program there is great as well, so I just want to be in a great environment,” he said.

Kyle is the son of Mary Gray and he plans to major in criminal justice and work in law enforcement.

Also signing last week was Kiki Howard, a four year member of the Lady Indians basketball team, who will be going to Piedmont College.

As one of seven seniors that led the Lady Indians to the region title and the state quarterfinals, she was a defensive leader on this year’s team.

Kiki was named All-Region this year, and she was also a member of the competition cheer team.

Kiki says why she chose Piedmont.

“I was talking to other D-3 schools, and then Piedmont had reached out to me and asked if I would like to go visit there.  So I went and visited, and they gave me an official offer.  I liked how small, and I liked the team chemistry when I met some of the teammates, and I just like the environment there, so I was already set with it.  That’s why I committed so early because I was highly interested in it,” she said.

Kiki is the daughter of Avero Howard and Ashley Westmoreland.  She plans to major in education and become a middle school teacher.
