Two More Services Planned for Former Governor Zell Miller

The second of three services is set for today for former Governor Zell Miller.

On Monday, a public memorial service was held in Zell’s hometown of Young Harris on the campus of Young Harris College.

Today, there will be a celebration of life service for Miller at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in downtown Atlanta..

Afterwards, Miller’s body will be taken to the Georgia State Capitol where he will lie in state in the capitol rotunda.

Then on Wednesday, Governor Nathan Deal is expected to host a special state funeral ceremony at the Capitol at 11a.

All of the events are open to the public.

One of the last of the conservative Democrats in public office, Miller served two terms as Georgia Governor from 1991 until 1999 and was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2000.

He is best known in Georgia for instituting a State Lottery in order to fund the HOPE Scholarship for underprivileged students.

Miller passed away last Friday at his home after a battling Parkinson’s Disease.

He reportedly died peacefully surrounded by his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Miller Institute Foundation in memory of Zell Bryan Miller.

Zell Miller was 86.
