Two FedEx Drivers involved in Thursday’s wreck

Additional details have been released regarding an accident that occurred Thursday afternoon near the Jeanette Jamieson Intersection.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, the accident involved two FedEx trucks.

The report issued by the Georgia State Patrol says Savannah Harrell, 23, of Athens had parked her 2018 Econoline Van facing north in a private store parking lot located at 3386 West Currahee Street, when she was hit while standing at the rear of her vehicle attending to her cargo door.

Lemuel Billingsley, 56, of Athens, was driving his 2018 Econoline Van facing southbound in the parking lot, directly to the rear of Harrell’s vehicle. Billingsley proceeded to back up, not seeing Harrell standing directly behind his vehicle until the impact occurred.

Billingsley backed his vehicle into Harrell and then her vehicle, causing injury to Harrell and both vehicles.

Harrell was life flighted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Georgia State Patrol to close the intersection to allow the Life Flight helicopter to land on the bypass.

The Carnes Creek Fire Department, Stephens County EMS, Stephens County 911, and several local volunteer firefighters also assisted the GSP.
