Two Demorest Residents arrested at local motel

Two Demorest residents have been arrested by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on December 29, at approximately 9:30 p.m. a K-9 Deputy with his office was attempting to serve a warrant at the Regency Inn Motel.

The K-9 deputy had information on a subject staying in room 117 who had an outstanding arrest warrant.

Shirley says the K-9 deputy knocked on the door for room 117 and a female, later identified as Dayna Pettus, opened the door.

The deputy immediately smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the room.

The deputy asked Pettus if Randy Browning was in the room. She stated he was.

Shirley says Browning was placed under arrest on the outstanding warrant and the deputy secured the room and a search warrant was obtained.

During the search, according to Shirley, the deputy located a quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Randy Browning, 42, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession and use of drug related objects.

Dayna Pettus, 50, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession and use of drug related objects.

Both are currently incarcerated in the Stephens County Jail.
