Two Arrested After Search Warrant Procured

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant last Friday in the Shady Shores area of a North Century Drive residence regarding identity fraud.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has been working on a month-long identity fraud investigation where an individuals personal bank account information had been used, and money transferred electronically.

During the investigation Shirley said his investigators were able to put together enough information that lead to the procurement of a search warrant for the N. Century Drive residence.

During the execution of the search warrant, investigators recovered identification information on a victim in this case, as well as paperwork with identification information on other victims. Investigators also recovered Georgia identification cards, social security cards, and several credit and debit cards. The search also lead to the recovery of methamphetamine and marijuana. The identity fraud investigation is still ongoing and charges related to this investigation will likely follow.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office arrested Myrissa Freeman, age 29, of Martin, GA and Demetrius Winkfield, age 35, of Toccoa. The pair are charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana less then one ounce. They are currently being held in the Stephens County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Shirley said that investigators are asking anyone living in the Shady Shores, Lake Harbor Shores, Holcomb or Bruce Road areas who may have had thefts of mail or discarded credit card information to contact CID Lt. Josh Goodbar at 706-886-7048.
