TSC Humane Shelter reopens to cat and kitten intake, adoptions

The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter has opened back up for cat and kitten intake and adoptions following a virus outbreak.

As WNEG News previously reported, the Humane Shelter temporarily closed its Cat and Kitten intake and adoption services earlier this month due to an outbreak of the highly contagious and deadly, Feline Panleukopenia virus.

The Feline Panleukopenia virus is similar to the Canine Parvovirus.

Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter Executive Director Jeff Roberts says the shelter implemented a 14-day quarantine for cats and kittens.

After going 14 days without any further positive tests/loss of life from the virus, the shelter feels it’s safe to reopen for cat and kitten intake and adoptions.

At this time, the shelter is requesting that anyone interested in adopting a cat or kitten to make an appointment by calling 706-282-3275.
