TruVista, Windstream hindering Deerchase Road Repairs

Heavy rain caused Crawford Creek to flood its banks in the Deerchase subdivision, collapsing a bridge in its path.

Residents of Deerchase are still unable to use the designated entrance to their subdivision.

Phyllis Ayers is the County Administrator for Stephens County.

Ayers told WNEG News on Friday that the road department has encountered an issue.

“The pipes are in, and we are about ready to go. But, we’ve got two utilities, TruVista and Windstream, that have not responded to move their utilities. So we’re going to wait a few more days for that before we have to go to some drastic measures,” Ayers said.

After heavy rainfall, a few weeks ago, pooled and collapsed a bridge on Deerchase Road, the Stephens County Road Department has been working to repair the road so that residents of Deerchase will be able to regain entrance to their road as soon as possible.

Heavy rain caused Crawford Creek to flood its banks in the Deerchase subdivision, collapsing a bridge in its path.

As previously reported, the Stephens County Road Department were developing drainage calculations to determine the correct structure to fit the drainage.

Ayers added that the project has been a main priority for both the county and the City of Toccoa.

The city of Toccoa have moved existing lines and rerouted them to bypass the compromised road.

WNEG News will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
