Trio arrested for trafficking methamphetamine in Stephens County

Three people have been arrested for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on July 15, investigators were conducting surveillance regarding an ongoing investigation into the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.

He says during this surveillance investigators observed a Blue Nissan Rogue pull into a residence and stay a brief period of time.  When the vehicle left, Shirley says investigators performed a traffic stop on West Currahee Street at RK Foods.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 40-year-old Mt. Airy resident Alan Goss.

While speaking with Goss, investigators noticed that he, along with his passengers, 26-year-old Clayton resident Kaylea Cannon and 34-year-old Martin resident Samuel George appeared to be nervous.

Shirley says this prompted investigators to call for one of the Sheriff’s Office narcotics detection dogs.

The narcotics K9 gave a positive alert, indicating the presence of illegal drugs inside of the vehicle.

Based upon this, a search of the vehicle was conducted.

Shirley says during the search investigators located a back-pack in the passenger floorboard containing a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

All occupants were then detained, and a thorough search of the vehicle was conducted.

During this second search, investigators looked under the hood of the vehicle, in a natural void near the engine compartment. There investigators recovered two large black bags.

During the inspection of the bags, two handguns and more than a half kilo of suspected methamphetamine were seized.

In addition to the illegal drugs, approximately $1,400 in small bills was also recovered and seized.

The trio were arrested and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine and Possession of methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute.

All three were transported to Stephens County Jail where they were denied bond by a magistrate judge.
