TPD urge motorist to keep vehicles locked

The Toccoa Police Department is investigating a series of entering auto cases.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, his department is seeing an increase in the number of these cases in recent weeks.

With the recent string of entering auto cases around the city of Toccoa and Stephens County, Mize encourages the community to take precautions to protect themselves from becoming a victim of future thefts.

He says there isn’t one thing that you can do to guarantee you won’t become a victim; however, he does say there are measures you can take to make yourself less vulnerable.

Mize says a locked door does make a difference.

In addition, Mize said people should remember to take valuables out of a vehicle or store them safely.

He said people should never leave items in plain view at night.

He adds that with Christmas quickly approaching, motorist are reminded to slow down and to stay alert as more vehicles will be on the road traveling for the holiday.
