TPD still looking for suspect responsible for last week’s armed robbery

The suspect responsible for an armed robbery that occurred in Stephens County last week is still on the run.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, his office continues to investigate the robbery and is requesting the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

As WNEG News previously reported, on Wednesday, August 24, at approximately 7:41 p.m. officers were dispatched to Kings Beverage on Big A Road in reference to an armed robbery.

Mize says once officers arrived, they contacted the owner who stated a man had come into his store wearing a motorcycle helmet, black shirt, and black pants. The man pulled a gun on the owner and ordered him to give him the money.

A physical altercation occurred between the two, during the altercation the owner was struck on the head with the gun and suffered minor injuries.

Mize says the suspect is described as a white male approximately 6-feet-tall, medium build and was last seen running in the direction of N. Avenue.

According to Kings Beverage Owner Duc Truong, he initially thought the subject was shoplifting; but when he confronted him the man pulled out a handgun.

Truong says the man fled the store after taking between $800 and $1,000 from the register and the shop owner’s cell phone.

Police located the motorcycle helmet and the cellphone outside of the business.

Mize says K-9 units from the Georgia State Patrol, Banks County and Stephens County Sheriff’s Offices assisted with the perimeter and search.

Anyone with information regarding this case or the identity of the suspect is asked to call Capt. Eddie Neal at 706-282-3244.

Neal says the Toccoa Police Department will be releasing surveillance footage soon in hopes of someone recognizing the suspect.
