TPD investigating Wednesday’s armed robbery

The Toccoa Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday night in Toccoa.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, at approximately 7:41 p.m. officers were dispatched to King Beverage on Big A Road in reference to an armed robbery.

He says once officers arrived they made contact with the owner who stated a man had came into his store wearing a motorcycle helmet, black shirt, and black pants. The man pulled a gun on the owner and ordered him to give him the money.

A physical altercation occurred between the two, during the altercation the owner was struck on the head with the gun and suffered minor injuries.

Mize says the suspect is described as a white male approximately 6-foot tall, medium build and was last seen running in the direction of N. Avenue.

According to Kings Beverage Owner Duc Truong, a man wearing a motorcycle helmet came into his story just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

He says he initially thought the subject was shoplifting; but when he confronted him the man pulled out a handgun, and after a brief struggle, hit the owner in the head before demanding money from the cash register.

Truong says the man fled the store after taking between $800 and $1,000 from the register and the shop owner’s cell phone.

Police located the motorcycle helmet and the cellphone outside of the business.

Mize says K-9 units from the Georgia State Patrol, Banks County and Stephens County Sheriff’s Offices assisted with the perimeter and search.
