TPD continues investigation into check forgeries

The Toccoa Police Department has been investigating many recent check forgeries throughout the City.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, during the investigation it was discovered that the forgers were using Local Business’ names along with citizens that were unaware of the incidents at all.

Officers have issued arrest warrants for 34-year-old Melissa Roberts, of Toccoa, and 44-year-old Leland Raley, of Toccoa for forgery in the 4th degree.

Mize says the pair is wanted in connection to passing some of the checks.

It was also discovered during the investigation that some of the checks had been distributed by 19-year-old Nicholas Brock, of Toccoa.

On Nov. 15, Brock was arrested at the Quality Inn, after officers were called to the area for a shoplifting in progress at Hibbett Sports.

According to Mize, Brock had gone directly to the motel where he was confronted by officers and the stolen items were found on his person as well as several types of drugs and drug related objects in his possession.

Officers also found some check printing software, some blank checks, and 15 checks that were already printed.

Brock was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule II narcotic, possession of drug related objects and shoplifting.

The investigation into the checks is still ongoing.

Mize is asking anyone with additional information about the forgeries to contact the Investigation Division at the Toccoa Police Department by calling 706-282-3244.
