TPD awarded $20k technology grant

The Toccoa Police Department is the recipient of a technology grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, the Toccoa Police Department has received a $20,000 grant, which will help finance four complete mobile computers and printers.

Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Allen Poole says, “the loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant. The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns, and other safety initiatives aimed at bringing us one step closer to our goal.”

Mize says the police department is excited to receive this grant. It is a great step in modernizing the department and giving officers new and better tools to do their jobs.

He explains that the four new computer systems will reduce a large amount of time and paperwork in regards to accident reports and citations.

The Police Department’s mission has always been, according to Mize, to serve and work with the community to keep Toccoa a safe place to live and work.
