Today is the final day to cast an advance ballot in Stephens County

Today is the final day to cast an advance ballot in the General Primary Election.

The Advance Voting period ends today at 5:00 p.m.

Early voting is being held at the Stephens County Historic Courthouse, located at 37 West Tugalo Street, in Toccoa and will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

May 13 was the final day to request an absentee ballot; if you missed the deadline, you now have two options for casting ballots during this election. You can either vote during the advance voting period or you’ll have to wait for election day to cast a ballot.

If you did request an absentee ballot prior to the deadline, absentee ballots must be returned to the Elections Office no later than 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24.

Stephens County Election Supervisor Krista Terry says there is an absentee ballot drop box located in the historic courthouse.

She adds that they have set up voting machines on the first floor, as well as the second floor, so that handicapped voters have easier access to the machines.

Election Day Voting will take place at the Stephens County Senior Center located on Rose Lane on Tuesday, May 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Additionally, Terry says that while Georgia law no longer requires a concealed carry permit for lawful weapons carriers, there are still a few places that lawful weapons carriers cannot carry their firearms, one of those is within 150 feet of a polling place.

So, you will not be allowed to carry a lawful weapon when you cast your ballot.
