Toccoa’s Vice Mayor warns of new scam in Toccoa-Stephens County

Toccoa’s Vice Mayor Jeanette Jamieson is warning of a new scam targeting Toccoa-Stephens County senior residents.

Jamieson says the scam is a mailer warning that Toccoa will become a Sanctuary City unless you make a donation.

“One thing that I would like to bring to the public’s attention is that there’s mailers going out throughout this community that has to do with sanctuary cities. Now, a lot of these mailers, of course, are going to the elderly, and are signed by Mike Huckabee, and says that ‘the City of Toccoa has ten days to prevent itself from becoming a sanctuary city,’ but it’s all a scam, of course. The bottom of the letter, it says, ‘you can prevent this from happening by sending’ and they begin at $28 and they go to $1,000,” she said.

Jamieson says that Toccoa is not becoming a sanctuary city.

Again, if you receive a mailer that says the City of Toccoa will become a Sanctuary City unless you send money, know that it is a scam.

The City of Toccoa is not at risk of becoming a Sanctuary City.
