Toccoa’s Streetscape Project Underway

Phase 6 of Toccoa’s Streetscape project is now underway off Alexander St.

The work involves the alleyway next to and behind WNEG Radio between Alexander and Sage Streets, as well as some of the sidewalk along Alexander Street.

City Manager Billy Morse said those who normally use the alleyway and parking lot should find alternate routes and parking.

“There will be some inconvenience during the construction phase,” said Morse. “The process is already begun. We’ll probably be blocking off some sidewalks soon so folks probably need to be thinking about alternates at this time.”

Toccoa Main Street is spearheading the project, according to Morse.

Total cost of the Phase 6 Streetscape project is estimated at just under $350,000 dollars.

Toccoa City Commissioners approved the project in 2012 and received $282,000 dollars in Georgia DOT funds to help pay for it.

Morse said the City of Toccoa is also providing matching funds.
