Toccoa’s Arbor Day Celebration starts today at 4 p.m.

As a reminder the City of Toccoa will celebrate Arbor Day today, February 18.

The ceremony will be held at Emory Johnson Park beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Arbor Day began in 1872 at the suggestion of J. Sterling Morton as a day set aside for tree planting and conservation of the earth’s resources.

Toccoa has been a Tree City USA community since 2004.

Tree City USA is thriving in Georgia because of the strong partnership between the Arbor Day Foundation and the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Toccoa is one of 112 certified Tree City USA communities in the state of Georgia.

On Monday, during the Toccoa City Commission’s regular scheduled meeting, the commission signed a proclamation for Arbor Day.

Susan Russell with the Forestry Commission says Toccoa is its model city for Arbor Day.

Again, the Arbor Day Celebration will be held today at Emory Johnson Park at 4 p.m.

The Public is invited to attend.
