Toccoa’s 11U All-Star team falls to Cartersville 18-9, eliminated from state 11U tournament

The Toccoa Little League 11U All-Star team overcame a 9-0 deficit to tie Cartersville at 9-9 before falling in extra innings 18-9 and were eliminated from the state 11U tournament in Dudley on Monday night.

Cartersville led 7-0 after 2 innings and 9-0 heading to the bottom of the 4th, but Toccoa then rallied.

In the bottom of the 4th, Toccoa sent 8 to the plate and scored 4 runs behind RBI’s from Isaiah Patterson and Caden Hamilton, and 2 RBI’s from Andrew Gibson.

After Hamilton got Cartersville in order in the top of the 5th, the offense struck for 5 more runs to tie the score sending 11 hitters to the plate.

Toccoa got RBI’s from Duke Collins, Hamilton, and Gibson, and Hayden Bales was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the score.

With the bases loaded and one out, Carterville’s 6th pitcher of the night, Will Phillips, was able to get out of the inning without allowing another run.

Hamilton again shut down Cartersville in the 6th inning to give his team a chance for a walkoff win, but Phillips again rose to the occasion and got Toccoa in order to send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the 7th, Cartersville sent 14 batters to the plate and had six hits and four walks on the way to doubling the score.

Phillips got the win for Cartersville who will now face Smyrna Blue tonight. Hamilton pitched well in taking the tough loss.

Toccoa leaves the state tournament at 0-2; but was a part of two wild and interesting games.
