Toccoa Woman Arrested in Cleveland after Deceased Puppy Found in Apartment

Kandice Johnson, 31, of Toccoa, has been placed under arrest and taken into custody at the White County Detention Center after Cleveland Police Department officers responded to complaints of foul odors at a Wanda Drive apartment complex and found a small puppy that was deceased and partly decomposed.

According to a press release by Cleveland Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker, when officers arrived at the apartment, the door was locked, but, with the help of a keyholder, officers accessed the apartment and found disordered rooms and odors of feces and rotting flesh. Officers searched the apartment and fond the puppy.

Shoemaker stated, “The animal had apparently been left inside without adequate food or water.

Johnson was located and arrested and transported to the White County Detention Center on charges of cruelty to animals, according to released information on the case, which stated that Johnson apparently rented the unit on a temporary basis, but is a resident of Toccoa.

White County Animal Control officers assisted in the incident and took possession of the deceased puppy. The case remains under investigation.
