Toccoa trio arrested in connection to two burglaries

Three Stephens County men were arrested in connection to two recent burglaries in the area of Scenic Drive.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on February 25, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office responded to two burglaries that occurred near Scenic Drive.

He says both burglaries happened within close proximity to each other.

Both the suspects caused extensive damage to property located inside each home.

One home reported three firearms missing: an AR15, a 20-gauge shotgun, and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, and the other reported food and kitchen items taken including two urns containing human remains.

Shirley says earlier in the same day, and prior to the reports of the burglaries, deputies responded to a call for service on County Farm Road in reference to people firing guns.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Austin Moffit, Jacob McIntyre, and Joshua Moffit.

The three men were shooting an AR15, a 20-gauge shotgun, and a 9mm pistol.

The three agreed to stop shooting and deputies left.

After receiving the burglary reports deputies returned to County Farm Road where they had made contact with the three individuals who had been shooting earlier.

Deputies were again able to make contact with them and positively identified the firearms that had been reported stolen in the burglary.

After the recovery of the firearms, investigators and deputies conducted a search of the suspects residence on County Farm Road and were able to recover all of the other items reported as stolen in both burglaries. The trio of men were arrested and charged.
