Toccoa-Stephens County to receive slight breeze off of Hurricane Dorian

As Hurricane Dorian moves up the coasts of Georgia and the Carolinas, some local residents have asked if Toccoa-Stephens County will experience any inclement weather.

WNEG News reached out to the National Weather Service for answers.

According to Meteorologist Steve Wilkinson, Toccoa-Stephens County will only receive a slight breeze from the storm.

“No, Hurricane Dorian is going to stay well to the east and south. Tomorrow (Thursday) there may be a few clouds around and a slight breeze, but there won’t be anything bad,” he said.

According to the National Hurricane Center, as Dorian continues to track near the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and southeast Virginia, the hurricane is expected to deliver a siege of storm surge flooding, high winds and flooding rain.

Dorian’s maximum winds have backed off from Sunday’s peak, however as of this morning, the hurricane regained enough strength to be a Category 3 hurricane; regardless, Dorian will have significant damaging impacts near and along the Southeast coast through Friday.
