Toccoa-Stephens County Library looks to Expand

Plans for expansion are underway at the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library, says Library Manager Emily McConnell.

Though still in the very early stages, McConnell is adamant that in the next 5 to 7 years Stephens County could very well see a larger space for the library.

McConnell told WNEG News that the library has already established a building committee and is seeking out grants to help fund the project.

“We are in the very early stages of looking at expanding. So far we have organized a building committee, and have done public opinion surveys that we are evaluating,” McConnell said.

With the expansion, comes possibilities for a new full-size computer lab and space for additional central library staff, McConnell said.

The Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library has been an invaluable resource throughout the community for 80 years.

McConnell explained that in order for the library to be awarded some larger grants it would require that the library have local funding for its match obligation.

McConnell also told WNEG News about a new adult education class that will be taught on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. until noon.

Again, the first computer class will start this Wednesday, Feb. 14, with an introduction to the internet.

WNEG News will continue to update the community as the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library makes strides towards its expansion.
