Toccoa Senior League Team Falls to Jones County in State Opener

The Toccoa Senior League All-Stars dropped the opening game of the Senior League State Tournament Saturday falling to Jones County 7-5 at Doyle Street Park in Toccoa.

Toccoa was limited to only four hits in the game but grabbed a 2-1 lead after the opening inning without a hit. Jones County grabbed the lead again with two runs in the 2nd inning and two in the 3rd to lead 5-2.

Toccoa rallied to tie in the bottom of the 3rd when Zeke Anderson doubled, Myles Ivester was hit by a pitch and Jax Higgins walked. Anderson scored on a passed ball, Riley Parshall had a RBI ground out scoring Ivester, and Talan Grafton singled in the tying run.

Jones County grabbed the lead again with 2 runs in the top of the 4th and then shut down the Toccoa offense the final three innings. Jones County had 10 hits in the game.

Toccoa will now face off with Oconee County in an elimination game this afternoon at 3:30 P.M. Jones County will face Rockmart at 1 P.M. in the winner’s bracket. Both games are being played at Doyle Street Park.
