Toccoa Senior League All-Stars Defeat Florida

The Toccoa Little League team Georgia All-Stars trailed early but scored six runs in the 3rd inning to take the lead and roll to a 6-5 victory over Dr. Phillips Little League, Florida in the Senior League Southeast Regional played in Safety Harbor, Florida on Sunday morning.

The Florida team took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the 3rd inning on a double by Diego Diaz. Toccoa’s big inning followed in the bottom of the 3rd by taking advantage of walks and Andrew Keown’s single that plated two.

A solo home run by Florida’s Shakir Rodriguez and two-run homer by Brody Conel cut the lead to 6-5 but Toccoa continued to play good defense and four pitchers combined to take the win.

Keown started the game on the mound for Toccoa going 2 and 2/3 innings allowing just one run on one hit while striking out four and walking only one. Chase Pollock, Findlay Ward, and Hayden Scott pitched in relief with Scott picking up the save.

Toccoa did not commit an error in the game and took advantage of seven walks allowed by Florida pitching. Ward and Ethan Smith had two walks each and Keown led Toccoa at the plate with two hits.

Toccoa now advances to face Tennessee in a battle between the only two undefeated teams in the Regional on Monday afternoon at 3:45 P.M. with the winner advancing to the final on Wednesday.

West Virginia has been eliminated, and teams from North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina and Florida will all play in elimination games on Monday.
