TOCCOA SALVATION ARMY DIRECTOR AND LOCAL VOLUNTEERS PART OF DISASTER RELIEF TEAM IN SOUTH GEORGIA

Local Salvation Army Director Rebecca Dixon and two volunteers are in Tifton, Georgia to help victims of Hurricane Idalia as they begin to recover from the storm.

Dixon said she, along with Gary Vance from Lavonia and Cheryl Cook from Rabun County, were deployed Thursday and will be in South Georgia and parts of Florida for the next 14 days.

The Georgia counties hit hardest by Idalia’s fury include Brooks, Lowndes, Echols, Clinch, Lanier, Cook, and Berrien. Consequently, The Salvation Army is channeling its relief resources to these areas.

Salvation Army disaster relief crews will be serving hot meals, and providing water and other provisions over the next two weeks wherever needed.

This is the second time Dixon has been deployed to a disaster area to help serve food and provide for the needs of storm victims.

In September 2021 Dixon was deployed to New Orleans after Hurricane Ida ravaged the area but this is a new experience for the two volunteers going with her this time.

While in South Georgia and Florida, Dixon said not only do they need your prayers but she says you can also make monetary donations to the Salvation Army Relief Fund.

You can send donations for Hurricane Idalia disaster to relief to the Salvation Army online at https://give.helpsalvationarmy.org/.

Or mail a donation to the Salvation Army Center in Toccoa at PO Box 1094, Toccoa, GA 30577.

WLHR News will be checking in with Dixon and her team over the coming days to get updates on the important work they’re doing in South Georgia and Florida.
