Toccoa receives GMA Safety Grant

During the recent Toccoa City Commission meeting, Mayor Evan Hellenga announced that the city was the recipient of a Safety Grant.

Hellenga says the grant will allow the city to purchase several different safety items for various Public Safety departments in Toccoa.

The grant was issued by the Georgia Municipal Association.

“I was made aware today that we were approved for a GMA Safety Grant, to the tune of $19,600, thanks to Jan’s (Jan Crawford) efforts. Some of the items we’ll be receiving…the Police Department will be getting some body cams and some in-car video systems,” he said. “Our Gas Department will be getting handheld gas detectors. The Fire Department will be getting some helmet cams along with some traffic vests. And our Water Department will be getting some reflective weather gear, which I’m told is sturdier than what we’ve used before. So, thank you Jan for your work in securing this grant for these much-needed items.”

He used his time during the commissioner reports section of the meeting to make the announcement.

Again, the GMA Safety Grant awarded to the City of Toccoa was for $19,600.
