Toccoa re-designated as a GEMS Community during TCC meeting

The Toccoa City Commission met in-person for the first time in over a year on Monday for its regular scheduled meeting.

During which, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs came before the Commission to discuss Toccoa’s redesignation as a Georgia Exceptional Main Street Community.

Elizabeth Elliott is the Downtown Preservation Planner with the Office of Downtown Development at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

Main Street Toccoa was originally awarded GEMS status in 2014 as one of the first five in the state.

In 2020, the program was required to go through a re-designation process to retain the GEMS designation; however, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the redesignation presentation was pushed back to March 2021.
