Toccoa Police Dept. Makes Drug Arrests and Criminal Trespassing on Train

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell reports several arrests in the last week on drug charges and criminal trespass.

On June 23, officers were dispatched to Waffle House in reference to two subjects who were reportedly very intoxicated.

Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Geary Friel. Jr., 42, and the passenger, Lanita Joy Hunter, 47.

According to the arrest report, both subjects showed signs of being high on methamphetamine. During the investigation, it was determined that Friel had driven to Waffle House and then a sobriety test was performed.

After consent to search the vehicle, officers found a small amount of a clear, rocky substance believed to be crystal meth.

The two were arrested and Friel was charged with possession of schedule II narcotic, possession of drug related objects and driving while under the influence. Hunter was charged with public intoxication.

In another case on June 23, around 9 p.m. a vehicle was observed driving with no headlights on.

The officer pulled out behind the vehicle on Rose Lane and activated his lights, at which point the vehicle drove to the end of the apartment complex and when the vehicle stopped, a male exited the vehicle and ran on foot.

The subject, identified as Eric Farmer, 27, was apprehended and placed under arrest. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, marijuana possession less than 1 ounce, possession and use of drug related objects, head/tail light requirements, abandonment of certain dangerous drugs and parole violation.

And in a criminal trespassing case, on June 28, officers responded to the area of Sage Street and Railroad Street in reference to an unauthorized person on a Norfolk Southern train.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the train conductor who said they were en route from Greenville and got a call that someone was riding in the bed of one of the rail cars.

After checking the train, a male subject was found in an empty container car, identified as Jeremy Ashe, 35. Ashe was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.
