Toccoa Police Dept. arrests man on drug charges with K-9’s help

Police Chief Tim Jarrell reports the arrest of an individual on drug charges.

On June 6 at 6:48 p.m., Officer Justin Parten stopped a red GMC Yukon for failure to stop at a traffic light at the intersection of Big A Road and Skyline Drive.

While Officer Parten was speaking with the driver, he detected an odor of suspected unburnt marijuana and asked for assistance from Officer Brawner with K-9 Tucker.

Jarrell said that Tucker indicated there were drugs in the vehicle.

“A search of the vehicle revealed a glass pipe believed to be for the smoking of methamphetamine, also located were several baggies with a white, clear, crystal type substance believed to be methamphetamine, also several baggies with a green, leafy type substance believed to be marijuana and several pills- one we believe to be methadone and another which we believe to be xanax,” said Jarrell.

After the location of these drugs, officers arrested James Eugene Burns, 36 of Toccoa. He was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, possession of drug related objects, possession of schedule II and schedule IV controlled substances, failure to obey a traffic light and an equipment violation for his windshield.
