Toccoa Police Department Presents Life Saving Award to 7 Year Old

It pays to listen and learn in school.

In the morning hours of April 3rd 7-year- old, and Liberty Elementary 1st grader, Addy Everett called 911 to report that her mother had fallen in their apartment. Her mother, Katie Wilbanks had some medical issues and was unresponsive. Addy made the call and was able to answer questions from the dispatcher which enabled help for her mother to be sent immediately.

The Toccoa Police Department and Toccoa Fire Department arrived on the scene and began working with Ms. Wilbanks and she was stable when EMS arrived. Both Addy and her mother were transported to Stephens County Hospital.

On Friday, City of Toccoa Mayor David Austin, Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, EMS Director Chris Stephens, and Toccoa Police Department patrolman Griffen Clark gathered with others to present Addy with a framed Life Saving Certificate.

Mize presented Addy with the certificate. “Addy told emergency personnel that she learned about 911 in school and that is why she was able to help her mother. She is an outstanding young lady and she showed amazing courage during a very scary and stressful situation. The Toccoa Police Department is honored to present Addy Everett with a Life Saving Certificate.”

Addy replied with a “thank you” and her mother said she was thankful that she taught Addy how to use the phone at an early age.
