Toccoa Man Struck By Vehicle and Killed Early Sunday in Athens

A UGA student from Toccoa was killed early Sunday morning in Athens.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald. Knox Davison Whiten, 21 of Toccoa, was hit by a vehicle as he walked along the Athens Perimeter.

According to the story, Athens-Clarke police said Whiten was walking sometime before 2 A.M. on the outer loop just past Chase Street in the right lane when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the same lane. Police said the driver fled the scene. Another passing motorist called police to report a person on the side of the highway, police spokesman Lt. Shaun Barnett said.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald OnlineAthens, Barnett says police investigators were back on the scene today trying to locate any debris that might help identify the type of vehicle involved.
